I find it a little odd that people make such tasteless jokes about pregnant women…as if they were brought into this world by a stork, left on their parents’ doorstep.
I think most pregnant jokes are usually targeted to young women and girls, those who are not as socially accepted to be seen as mothers. I really don’t want to get into the teen pregnancy issue since I see enough of the drama and response to the negative comments daily, but I think people should really open up their minds and try to comprehend what they’re saying.
The truth is people don’t understand what they’ve never experienced. How do I know? Because I was once that person. Never in a million years did I think I’d be pregnant today, so a little joke among my close friends and even scoffing at the mention of me being pregnant at all didn’t seem like a big deal to me.
I truly believe everything happens for a reason and lessons are learned and thoroughly comprehended through experience and uncertain times. I’m glad I was able to realize this. A tolerant and compassionate person is better suited to know how to love and to love unconditionally. For that, I’m even more excited to bring my child into this world.
